theexpressiveweb.com is a beautiful resource and showcase on CSS3 and HTML5 features.

It is brought by Adobe and currently shares 12 features including the ones like CSS3 animations, media queries, web fonts, HTML5 audio, canvas and web storage.

The website is pretty interactive and comes with many impressive demosthat are built by Adobe or other websites.

For each property, the browsers that support it are displayed and, for non-compatible browsers, any possible fallback strategies are discussed.

Also, the official announcement of the project includes an informative "Lessons Learned" part which is a very nice read.

P.S. 2 Adobe-related posts in a row. What are the odds? : )

Adobe's Flash is probably having the most difficult days since its launch considering the no-iOS support and the increasing popularity of HTML5 + web standards.

A strong competitor to the Flash platform now comes right from Adobe with a tool named Edge that eases creating web-based interactive animations that only use HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.

There is a Flash-like timeline for building the animations and the built-in JavaScript engine used for them is jQuery.

Check out these demos and consider downloading the source files for the demos to start playing with the application quickly.

Adobe Edge is currently released as a preview release and offered for free during that period.

jQuery.fracs, an impressive jQuery plugin, lets us detect the part of an HTML element that is currently in the viewport, the fraction it takes of the complete viewport and the rest that may be visible.

Also, it can get the coordinates of the visible rectangle in document, element and viewport space.

There is a very original feature provided that can generate (with HTML5 canvas) the outline of any given element and its contents where this outline is clickable and can help users to browse easily.

And, there are several other functions which makes working with the viewport and coordinates easily like softLink that converts all selected page internal links (<a href="#…">) into soft links.

CSS Crush is an extensible PHP-based CSS pre-processor that minimizes many of the hacks and workarounds used in CSS development. Here are some uses of it:

It can scan the @import directives and includes the contents of them to the output HTML generated in order not to make multiple requests.

CSS Crush

There is no need to use any browser-specific properties, rules or functions as CSS Crush can create them automatically according to the browser used.

Some built-in math functions and ability to use variables help getting the most out of CSS.

And, there is support for minification and caching for serving them as fast as possible.

Elycharts is an easy-to-use and customizable library for creating charts with only JavaScript.

The library supports most of the popular chart types including line, column, are, bar, pie, sparklines and combinations.

Elycharts

Elycharts comes with many interactions like mouse tracking and events, highlight of selected areas with various animations, tooltip and hints, html anchors and many more.

Also, it can modify data dynamically with good-looking animations to display the change in charts.

The charts are generated with SVG/VML and the library is built on jQuery + Rapha?l.

Opa is a web development platform that is mostly focused on scalability, easy deployment to the cloud, security and a faster coding process to create apps.

It consists of the following which are tightly integrated into each other:

  • a new programming language
  • a new web server
  • a new database
  • a new distributed execution engine

Opa

Opa is a little different most other programming languages aroundconsidering the integrity it has. There is no need to deal with any other software, server or language (even SQL or JavaScript). Just Opa.

Out of the box, the platform has everything for scaling of storage, transactions and how they are served. It handles them automatically by using minimum resources.

Opa is currently available for Mac OS X and Linux, however, Windows support is under development. It is also very well-documented.

P.S. Although a new language usually looks hard (or unnecessary) for any developer, Opa is definitely worth checking out.
